“Art has always been a meditation for me; it is a tool to better understand and hear my own thoughts. I know a lot of people (philosophers, gurus, your nextdoor neighbor) advise to ‘stay present’ to be happy, and I think there’s so much truth and care behind what they’re saying. However, presence is a continual renewal of the now, so it’s pretty much impossible to ‘stay’ present. For many that task can seem laborious in itself. Instead, I would offer ‘pay attention to the now’ or ‘appreciate the now.’ Presence…the now…it’s always available to you. Living presently is so much more abundant and allowing versus scarce and contracting. You’re experiencing what’s there instead of what’s lacking. The now has so much to offer in terms of expanding our awareness, and tuning into a mindful state of being can really catalyze living into an art form.
