“What could be more interesting, or in the end, more ecstatic, than in those rare moments when you see another person look at something you’ve made, and realize that they got it exactly, that your heart jumped to their heart with nothing in between.”
Sanders lives and works in Manhattan Beach, California. He has shown his work throughout Southern California, including a solo exhibition at Eastern Projects in 2019. He was included and sold his work in Venice Art Walk: Benefit Auction 2020 alongside John Baldessari, Louise Bourgeois, Mike Kelley, and Kiki Smith.
Sanders is actively involved in philanthropy and established the Sanders Family Foundation. The Foundation supports organizations fostering sustainable change in developing countries with a specific focus on initiatives directed towards women and children. All of Sanders’s sales are donated to this Foundation.
“Through the exploration of the artistic canon of Art History, I challenge the viewer to look beyond accepted preconceptions of the context of art. Throughout my life, I have been heavily exposed to an international art scene through museums and self-directed study. This breadth of immersion informs my aesthetic language of artistic genres, styles, and techniques.
I am motivated by the challenge of metabolizing what I see and welcome creative risk-taking as I apply paint to canvases. I often dissect a particular artist or genre, style or technique, through repetitive, serial image making. As I move through this process, I find that styles begin to merge, creating a new contemporary structure. My work is influenced by Basquiat, Picasso, Miro, Van Gogh, Dali, Gorky, Bacon, Frankenthaler, Kandinsky, and Condo”
