WASHINGTON CORRIDOR GALLERY

Iconic California

Join us inside the Washington Corridor Gallery for a special exhibition titled Iconic California, a collective of artists that capture the beauty that is ever-present in our landscape. Wander through the installation and enjoy a visual journey that is immediately translated to a narrative that can only be found in California.

Take in the work of Connie Conway, a Los Angeles-based fine art photographer. Her series L.A. After SUNSET is a collection of photographs that capture the beauty and essence of Los Angeles’s dramatic transformation at sunset. Each image is an illumination of the oddities of the respective landscape – both physical and societal.

Donald Wexler was an influential architect. His mid-century aesthetic and pioneering use of steel in residential and commercial architecture can be found in many Palm Springs structures. Join us for a special installation, Desert Modernism, featuring the architecture of Donald Wexler including photography, prints and curation by his son, Glen Wexler, and paintings by artist Andy Burgess.

We are excited to feature artists Linda Sue Price and Michael Flechtner with a neon exhibition that’s personal, expressive and totally L.A. Price is known for injecting her personal reflections into abstract shapes and to manipulate how neon is perceived as a medium. Her unique style of free form bending includes elements of historic neon signs, abstract expressionism, social realism, pop art and graphic design influence. Neon is Michael Flechtner’s medium of expression for over 30 years. He is ever mindful of the compelling nature of this pure, colored, glowing light and the tendency of many to see “all things neon” as simple decoration, signage or kitsch. “Text is a natural where it comes to neon so we are used to seeing it used in signage. And since much of my work involves word play, puns, homophones, malapropos, acronyms, etc. and love of color, movement, composition and imagery… it is not unusual to see a combination of these components in my art.”

Luminario Ballet

Dance speaks every language; dance inspires; dance moves people emotionally; dance brings us together. Thrill to LA’s own Luminario Ballet inside the Helms Design Center as they perform three selections from their wonderful Led Zeppelin rock-ballet-acro-aerial-opus, “LedZAerial”. Performances are at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, with a 15-minute Q&A to follow each performance.

Dancing With Silk

An exhibition of wearable eco-prints on silk by artist Rachel X and eco-print art by Lynn Mikami. Eco-printing is a dyeing technique using renewable, sustainable and natural materials from local ecosystems. Eco-print art uses mixed media as well as eco-printed pieces on both fabric and paper, resulting in irreproducible unique works of art. As you enter the gallery you witness the fluttering of mystical scarves commingling with the more solid eco-print art which holds its place peacefully on the wall. “Dancing with Silk” is a journey into a world where the spirit of nature and art coincide.
