This Thursday, March 3, Helms invites you for a reception and conversation about the issues raised by DAU. What happens to cultural identity in the face of such extreme change and what can designers do to recreate a sense of place? Does the extreme density of Asian cities represent the future for all growing cities?

Join us for an evening of “The Chance to Paint Each Other Gold” a multi-dimensional presentation of Stu Paul’s documentary “Ink and Linda”, featuring Inksap and Linda Lack followed by a Q&A. Enter the reception showroom where you can view an installation of the shared street art and subsequent wall art created by Inksap, plus a live and intimate demonstration revealing Inksap and Lack’s artistic process.

In Harmony with Nature: The Architectural Work of James Hubbell

James Hubbell is a painter, sculptor and architectural designer who has spent 60 years designing and making buildings, artifacts and fine artworks that reflect a deep passion for the ocean and for earth’s gifts. From Ilan Lael, his self-made home, workshops and foundation in Julian near San Diego, Hubbell has created schools in concert with the community in Tijuana, an organic chapel at Sea Ranch and parks that span the cultures of the Pacific Rim. Now Angelenos can see his architectural work shown for the first time in L.A. at an exhibition opening on Earth Day at Helms Bakery District in Culver City.
